Statement on Anti Homosexuality Bill, 2009
We are pleased to share with you information regarding the Anti Homosexuality Bill, 2009. This Bill is a Private Members' Bill currently before the Parliament of Uganda. Members of Parliament will debate it and the final position then be reached. We wish to let you know some of the issues it contains that have raised controversy. There is a proposal to replace the death penalty in case of aggravated homosexuality with children/youth with life sentence. What should be made clear though is that homosexuality is already illegal by Ugandan laws. The proposed Bill therefore is intended to address gaps that are existing in the current law.
